The aroma of fresh roasted Ethiopian coffee beans filled the air, as “Africa Must Wake Up” played in the background of this Newark coffee shop. The song struck my attention having played it on repeat, only the day before. It was no coincidence.
My brothers Jim Boice and Ikechukwu Onyema joined me for a meal. Like an American Socrates with a Nigerian Pythagorus and Filipino Plato, our colorful trio was complete. Great minds with full hearts flew us freely into the stratosphere of radical possibilities. We spoke of “servants” versus “kings” … books and blogs … white fragility … passion projects … and more.
